California Prop 65 WARNING: Cancer and Reproductive Harm - www.p65warnings.ca.gov

Requires Veterinarian Authorization

Product description

Signature is required upon delivery.

Has you pet experienced uncontrolled shaking? Have they showed additional symptoms such as excessive drooling, foaming at the mouth, and periods of unconsciousness? If so, they might've experienced a seizure, which is sometimes caused by the neurological disorder epilepsy. If this is the case, your veterinarian might prescribe a drug called Phenobarbital, which is used to control epileptic seizures in cats and dogs.

How does Phenobarbital help control epileptic seizures in cats and dogs?

Epileptic seizures are caused by excessive neuron activity in the brain. Phenobarbital helps decrease the frequency and severity of seizures by reducing and stabilizing neuron activity. The drug also increases the nervous system's Gamma Aminobutyric Acid content and reduces neurotransmitters to lessen nerve stimulation.

How is this drug administered?

Phenobarbital is administered orally in tablet form. Your veterinarian will prescribe the proper dosage according to your pet's species and the severity of their condition.

What are the potential side effects of Phenobarbital?

Potential side effects include anxiety, exhaustion, increased thirst and appetite, increased urination, anemia, and weight gain.

What happens if I miss a dose?

If you miss a dose, give the missed dose as soon as you remember. However, if the next dose is due soon, skip the missed dose and give the next dose according to schedule. NEVER give two doses at once. Please note that a missed dose might cause a seizure. When in doubt, consult your veterinarian.

What information should I share with my veterinarian?

Be sure to let your veterinarian know if your pet has a history with liver disease or sensitivity to anti-seizure medications.

Do I need a prescription to buy this medication?

Yes. Phenobarbital cannot be purchased without a valid prescription from a licensed veterinarian. This drug can be used as a lone therapy or in combination with other medications, but never administer Phenobarbital without specific instructions from your veterinarian.
